Coating Technician

Position Summary

Coating Technician operates vacuum chambers that apply thin coatings through vapor deposition. The person is responsible for operating thin film vacuum deposition tools. Duties include loading, setting controls, monitoring and removing glass substrates into and out of vacuum chambers. This position will be located in our Largo, Florida facility. The schedule is 6:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday – Thursday, (30 minute lunch break). 

Role and Responsibilities

  • Work in a fast paced environment as an effective team member
  • Follow production process and procedures with attention to detail in when:
    • Cleaning, inspecting and loading glass substrates into vacuum chambers
    • Coating of multi-layer dielectric and anti-reflective coatings
    • Coating of enhanced metal reflectors
  • Operate computer controlled mechanical systems and equipment
  • Verify thin film deposition and other process results with measurement equipment
  • Perform maintenance of chambers including disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly
  • Perform routine cleaning/maintenance and refurbishment of process tools
  • Conduct basic process troubleshooting for identifying tool issues and reporting these to the supervisor
  • Prepare daily process reports

Skills

  • Strong attention to detail and multi-tasking skills
  • Strong knowledge in mathematics a must
  • Ability to read Engineering prints and specifications for finished product
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of Windows XP and PC-based control/measurement software is a plus
  • Ability to learn new equipment and processes quickly

Desired Prior Experience

  • 3 years experience working with vacuum chambers
  • 3 years experience operating computer controlled evaporation and sputtering deposition equipment
  • Knowledge of thin film deposition techniques
  • Prior experience using PC-based control or measurement software systems

Physical Requirements

  • Excellent vision
  • Ability to lift 35 pounds frequently and up to 75 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to place trays of glass product into equipment, which requires lifting and reaching overhead
  • Ability to climb ladders
  • Ability to enter product parameters into PC based control systems
  • Ability to stand while performing duties and monitoring chambers – 75% of the time
